Fresh versions of old games

All the games on this page will run from hard disk and are fixed for all machines that I have in my possession, i.e. regular ST/E, the Mega STE, the Falcon030 and the TT. Newer releases are also compatible with the CT60/63 accelerators. With many titles you have the choice of 8Mhz or 16MHz CPU speed. On the Falcon, VGA and RGB monitors/TV are supported. They also have been tested on lots of various emulator configurations. They may or may not work on Ataris with custom hardware upgrades, like accelerators or graphic cards. Although I have tried to put nothing into my code that would rule those machines out automatically, there's no guarantee they will work.
(Multi-)trainers and high score saving are also provided, when appropriate. As a special and novel feature, most of the games will allow you to quit back to the desktop without rebooting your machine, by pressing a key combination (usually Control-D) and to save your progress in the game by taking memory snapshots that can be restored at any time, even on other machines than the one you've taken them on. Portions of ULS by D-Bug are used in almost every title when saving data to hard disks, for the quit option and for memory snapshots.
Well, that's about it! If you wanna read more in-deep technical blah you might want to visit the About Page, once it's finished. Otherwise I hope you enjoy revisiting those spiced up old classics. :-)

Kid Gloves

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT/CT60 compatible / HD compatible / 6 trainer options / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512kB / hard disk: 1MB

A quite cute platformer in which you will have to help Kid to get back to his home (and time!). Among the various places you will visit in this game, I especially liked the Sgt. Pepper themed Psychedelia screens which you will encounter towards the end of the game. Difficulty level is quite high, so there are a couple of trainer options available to make your journey easier.

Spot

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT/CT60 compatible / HD compatible / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512kB / hard disk: 1MB

Spot is a board game that is reminiscent of the classic game of Reversi, with the rules somewhat different. The name of this game, and the character appearing in it, are licensed from the Seven-Up company, btw. Well, the game is nothing special, but if you like board games you can spent a few enjoyable hours with it.

Swiv

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT/CT60 compatible / HD compatible / 2 trainer options / score saver / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 2MB / hard disk: 2MB

This is a top-notch vertical shooter from the guys at Random Access. The game engine and kernel used in this game are extremely advanced for ST standards. The kernel is even able to multitask! The background floppy loading system used in the orginal was also very well done, so it would waste only very little time with floppy access. Due to this refined system it was not too easy to patch this game for newer machines, although I think that all should be fine now.

Winter Games

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT/CT60 compatible / HD compatible / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512kB / hard disk: 1MB

Winter Games was the successor to the highly popular Summer Games, released by Epyx in 1984. Winter Games arrived 2 years later, with the ST version being the first 16bit incarnation. The game is a bit limited technically, but ok for a 1986 title. Even then, it can still give lots of pleasure today, especially if you play it with a few friends. The Biathlon competition is my favourite event, btw.

Star Wars

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT/CT60 compatible / HD compatible / 8/16 MHz / trainer / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512kB / hard disk: 1MB

Yeah, I know this pic is nowhere to be seen in the game but I had a hard time making a screenshot of the actual game and then scaling it down to the micro size required on this page. You really couldn't recognize anything on it. Anyway, this is one of the better aracde conversions on the ST. So grab your mouse and go shooting some Empire scum!

Warlock's Quest (aka: Warlock)

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT/CT60 compatible / HD compatible / 2 trainer options / score saver / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512kB / hard disk: 1MB

There are three Warlock titled games on the Atari ST. This is the 1988 Ere Informatique game, that was also known as plain "Warlock" in the USA. It's a bit reminiscent of "Ghouls & Ghosts", featuring 20 horror themed levels with lots of undead vermin to battle. Graphics and sound in this game are rather sub-par, but it's good enough for some fun 20 minutes at least. The original version of this game worked with TOS 1.00 and 1.02 only, due to some sloppy coding.

Lemmings

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT/CT60 compatible / HD compatible / 5 trainer options / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 1MB / hard disk: 1MB

Is there anyone who doesn't know Lemmings? I don't think so. It was one of the most famous and popular games in the early nineties, and deservdly so. There's an enourmous addictive quality to it that just won't let you stop playing. This patch took a bit longer than usual due to a large number of individual changes that had to be applied to make it work properly on the various Atari machines. For all you cheaters, there's a complete list of the level passwords to be found in the manual.

Bubble Ghost

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT/CT60 compatible / HD compatible / 8/16 MHz / 2 trainer options / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 1MB / hard disk: 1MB

This is a really cute game from France. It may look quite dated, even by ST standards, but it's lots of fun to play. Help a little ghost to guide a bubble through 35 rooms in an old haunted castle by blowing on the bubble. Sounds a bit weird? Sure! Vital note: use the SHIFT key to blow! You may also want to have a look at the Wikipedia article for this game - it has some nice trivia for it.

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade - The Action Game

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT/CT60 compatible / HD compatible / 8/16 MHz / 5 trainer options / score saver / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512kB / hard disk: 1MB

Another movie licence made into a so-so game. Tiertex were notorious for producing sub-par games on the ST and this one is no exception, although they did even worse than here. You will have to explore 4 levels and find an artifact in each, then try to get to the exit to the next level. I thought this game was rather hard, so the 5 trainer options might help you to guide Indy to the Holy Grail.

The Bard's Tale

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT/CT60 compatible / HD compatible / 8/16 MHz / in-game trainer options / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 1MB / hard disk: 2MB

You like to spend months, not hours, on a game? You like to draw maps on squared paper and despise such needless luxury like auto-mapping? You're prepared to neglect real life and dwell in your dungeons for eternity? Well, then this game is for you. If not, stay well clear of it! Anyway, this new patch will give you the usual enhanced compatibility for newer machines and a more than useful option to save your game progress while playing, provided you run it from HD.

Arkanoid 2 - Revenge of Doh

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT/CT60 compatible / HD compatible / 8/16 MHz / 3 trainer options / score saver / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512KB / hard disk: 512KB

It may not be quite the hit as part one, but Arkanoid 2 still is a very nice arcade conversion. Yeah, controls are a bit more sluggish due to its 2 VBLs frame rate as opposed to the super smooth 1 VBL refresh in the first installment. It makes up for that with lots of new and fancy bonus items though and the number of levels has been doubled. One of the best Breakout variants on the ST in any case!
Image (82 KB)   |   Files (81 KB)   |   Manual (3 KB)   |   Icons (6 KB)

Sim City

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT/CT60 compatible / HD compatible / 8/16 MHz / trainer / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 1MB / hard disk: 1MB

This game was already Falcon030/TT compatible right from the start, so why make a patched version, you might ask? Well, I was always bugged by the fact that you had to launch games that use the AES (GEM menus, GEM windows, etc.) from the proper screen resolution. With the new core for AES games this is no longer necessary, just double-click the game from any screen resolution. Please check the NOTES section in the README.TXT file for more information.
Additionally, there's also a speed fix, so that game time doesn't fly too fast when you're running it on a faster machine. This is a great game, btw :-)

Ivan Ironman Stewart's Super Off Road

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / HD compatible / 8/16 MHz / 2 trainer options / score and lap time saver / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 1MB / hard disk: 1MB

Do you like Super Cars and Super Sprint? Well, then this game should float your boat too. It's a funny top-view racer, much in the vein of the classics mentioned above. Even better, play it with some friends, it's a real blast in multi player mode. This game will also work at 60Hz screen refresh now and of course on the Falcon030 and the TT..

Fire and Ice

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT/CT60 compatible / HD compatible / 2 trainer options / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 1MB / hard disk: 1MB

In my opinion this is one of the best platform games on the ST. Released in its twilight days, it features a huge world (well, actually it's seven worlds), loaded with varied opponents, bonus items, secret rooms and surprises. There are a couple of slow spots in the later levels, so better run it on a faster machine, provided you have one. The original wouldn't work at 60Hz screen refresh which has been fixed in this version, along with a few other minor bugs.
Image (659 KB)   |   Files (656 KB)   |   Manual (7 KB)   |   Icons (6 KB)

Dugger

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / HD compatible / 2 trainer options / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512KB / hard disk: 1MB

A nice Dig-Dug clone, done by some famous guys from the classic ST scene. The programmer Till Bubeck was also known as Chaos Inc. of Delta Force. The funky music was composed by a then 16 year old Jochen Hippel, still better known as Mad Max. This game took a few more efforts than usual to get it 100% working on the Falcon030. It may get a bit repetitive after a few levels but it's the closest you will get to the original Dig-Dug on the ST.

World Darts

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / HD compatible / score saver / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 1MB / hard disk: 1MB

This is one of five commercial Darts games on the ST and it was the first one to be published. It's far from being the best of the five, but it's the only one I played in my youth so I have a soft spot for it. Sorry for the long loading times which are due to the game's shell. This handles the communication with the OS, is written in C and is unbelievably slow. On a more positive note, high scores will be saved to disk in this version.

Deliverance

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / HD compatible / 2 trainer options / score saver / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 1MB / hard disk: 2MB

A respectable conversion of an Amiga original game, Deliverance features huge sprites and well-drawn graphics. Scrolling and general game speed are surprisingly fast, even on a plain 8 MHz ST. There are a few rough spots here and there but I think they don't distract too much from the good overall impression. This game originally required 1 MB RAM to work at all, so you will need 2 MB to run if from hard disk. When you run it from floppy 1 MB will suffice.

Oids

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT/CT60 compatible / HD compatible / 8/16 MHz / 4 trainer options / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 1MB / hard disk: 1MB

Asteroids meets Gravitar and Choplifter. Even when it's a very simple game, Oids quickly became one of the highest rated titles for the Atari ST (it was not released on the Amiga) and still has many cult followers today. I, for one, wouldn't put it into my personal top ten, but it's a very enjoyable game for sure. The protection on the original game disk was one of the best I have seen yet! If you want to use your own galaxy files then just copy them to the game directory.

The Godfather

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / HD compatible / 8/16 MHz / 3 trainer options / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 1MB / hard disk: 1MB

The original version of this game occupied 6 double sided floppy disks, filled with really nice pictures (drawn by Pete Lyon). Unfortunately, as it's often the case with movie licensed titles, US Gold forgot to put a game on the disks. Anyway, this version fits on three floppies and supports two floppy drives, so disk swapping isn't as bothersome as it was before. Better still, play it from HD.

Baby Jo in "Going Home"

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / HD compatible / 8/16 MHz / 3 trainer options / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512KB / hard disk: 1MB

Another horizontal scroller that is just too slow in places on a standard ST. Things get better if you own one of the faster machines - or if you just crank up the CPU speed in your emulator. The game itself is very well made and has lots of fancy touches, as well as cute graphics and apt music (even when some people may think it's annoying). There are only four levels, but these are really vast.

Stario's Christmas

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / HD compatible / 3 trainer options / score saver / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 1MB / hard disk: 1MB

Nice Mario clone for the ST. This is actually the second installment in a (short) series of Stario games. Both titles must count amongst the latest games released commerically for the ST. This new version won't force 50Hz screen refresh anymore and comes equipped with the usual goodies. It will take its time to initialise itself, so please bear with it after launch.

Captain Dynamo (aka: Dynamo)

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / HD compatible / 8/16 MHz / 3 trainer options / score saver / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512KB / hard disk: 1MB

A high quality platformer from the twilight years of the ST. Work your way upwards in 6 levels navigating a succession of fiendishly-designed arrangements of platforms and traps. Once you reach the upper section, you'll be transported to the next level. There are also two secret rooms, see if you can find them. High scores will be saved in this version and there are a few helpful trainer options too.

Impact

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / HD compatible / 2 trainer options / score saver / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512KB / hard disk: 512KB

This may be the ugly duckling amongst the commercial Breakout clones on the ST, but thanks to its 1 VBL frame rate it's a very playable one! Fast reaction to user input is a must for this type of game. Just compare it to Tonic Tile, found further down on this page: Tonic Tile got the looks, but Impact can actually be played. User created level files will be loaded if present on disk. Please read the manual for more info on that.

Strider

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / HD compatible / 8/16 MHz / 3 trainer options / score saver / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512KB / hard disk: 1MB

Tiertex and good games usually don't go well together, but in this case they actually managed to produce a quite attractive title. The game is also nice to look at and the music is neat, albeit a bit repetitive. In this new version you will find a 'faster gameplay' option (within the trainer options). This will speed things up a bit, even on 8 MHz machines. Just try it and see if you like it or not.

Battlezone

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / HD compatible / 8/16 MHz / trainer / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512KB / hard disk: 512KB

My first look at the code of this game left me a bit baffled. It took a while until I realised that I was actually looking at an emulator! The ST version emulates the original arcade machine's 6502 CPU, which took care of the game logic. Putting a trainer on this game was quite tricky because of that. This new version will save your hi score, but only if you exit the game to the desktop, just like the original did.

Mata Hari

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / HD compatible / 8/16 MHz / 2 trainer options / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512KB / hard disk: 1MB

A platformer with a difference! You are Mata Hari, the famous dancer and spy, on a mission to evade a foreign embassy and to free your co-agent (and lover) who is held captured in the topmost floor. I couldn't find an original or a Pasti image of this game, so I used a cracked version from my old disk box. No idea who the cracker was, there were no credits given. Anyway, this version worked ok until the end.

Commando

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / HD compatible / 3 trainer options / score saver / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512KB / hard disk: 1MB

The original I used for this fix had two quite serious bugs: one potentially prevented you from finishing levels 4 and 8 in the proper way, the other one caused wrong level data being loaded in two players mode under certain conditions. Both bugs have been squished in this version. Owners of very fast machines (32MHz or more) will find a "hardcore mode" within the trainer options. Use it only if your fingers are really quick.

The Sentinel (aka: The Sentry)

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT/CT60 compatible / HD compatible / trainer / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512KB / hard disk: 512kB

This is one of my alltime favourites on the ST and a game that's still unique after all this years. If you can't make heads and tails of it then please read the manual and try to learn the ropes - I think you won't regret it! This new version gets rid of the slow mouse bug in Steem and Hatari and also features a no level codes trainer.
Image (57 KB)   |   Files (56 KB)   |   Manual (7 KB)   |   Icons (5 KB)

Drakkhen

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / HD compatible / in-game trainer options / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512KB / hard disk: 1MB

Finally an RPG on this site! Drakkhen is a complex and quite hard game. Its good points are the nice graphics engine and lots of attention to detail. Gameplay often is quite illogical though and the background story is weak and uninvolving. This new version fixes a couple of bugs (probably not all of them) and is properly filed, packed and linked, so it even fits on one single disk now. Btw, please read the manual if you want to get anywhere in the game!

Gauntlet

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT/CT60 compatible / HD compatible / 8/16 MHz / 4 trainer options / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 1MB / hard disk: 1MB

Maybe the coders already had the Falcon or the TT in mind when they wrote this game. On a stock 8MHz Atari it crawls like mad when there's some action going on the screen. Actually the TT, set to maximum speed, and the CT60 are the only machines I have that are able to maintain a very playable 3 VBLs framerate even in the most crowded situations. Anyway, this new version fixes the annoying screen flicker that plagued all previous incarnations and it comes with a trainer as well.

Erik

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT/CT60 compatible / HD compatible / 8/16 MHz / 4 trainer options / score saver / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512KB / hard disk: 1MB

Erik is a very playable platformer that doesn't reinvent the genre but will give lots of pleasure anyway. It borrows some ideas from classics like Rainbow Islands and Rick Dangerous without being a mere rip-off. This one was almost Falcon and TT compatible right from the start. Just the sample player had to be fixed so sounds will now play at the same tone pitch on all machines. A few extra features have been provided as usual.
Image (163 KB)   |   Files (162 KB)   |   Manual (3 KB)   |   Icons (6 KB)

Chase HQ

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / HD compatible / 3 trainer options / score saver / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512KB / hard disk: 1MB

This is an ok conversion of a classic arcade racing game by Taito, although it's really nothing special on the ST. This new version fixes a few bugs as well as adding the usual goodies like trainers and a score saver. If you're running the game at 16MHz CPU speed or faster there will be an option to slow down the game to resemble the gaming experience on 8 MHz STs for which it was originally designed. Please see the manual for more details.

Airball

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / HD compatible / 8/16 MHz / 2 trainer options / score saver / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 1MB / hard disk: 1MB

Another true 'oldie' here, having been released in the year 1987. Explore hundreds of hazardous rooms and try to regain your human shape, as you have been transformed into a blue ball by an evil wizard. Yes, really! The original had a serious bug in mouse control mode which has been fixed here. Mouse control is still a royal pita though, so I'd recommend to play the game with the joystick anyway.

Bombuzal

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / HD compatible / 2 trainer options / score saver / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512KB / hard disk: 1MB

Bombuzal is a challenging puzzler containing a vast amount of individual levels. Some of the levels have been designed by gaming legends like Jeff Minter or Andrew Braybrook This version will of course work from HD as well as on the Falcon and TT. A score saver and a few trainer options have been added.

Tonic Tile

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / HD compatible / 8/16 MHz / 3 trainer options / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 1MB / hard disk: 1MB

This game wouldn't run properly on most TOSes in its original version. It did load but got stuck sooner or later and didn't respond to mouse movements anymore. It works ok on all machines and TOS versions now. The construction set that came with the original disks is not included here. However, you may still load user created levels by placing a levels file named "TONIC.SET" into the game directory.

Lombard RAC Rally

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / HD compatible / 8/16 MHz / 4 trainer options / lap time saver / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 1MB / hard disk: 1MB

A nice rally simulation with great graphics for its time - the game was originally released in 1988. This version includes the sampled loading tune, which was to my knowledge only included in the 2 disks version of this title. Owners of faster machines will benefit from a faster frame rate, resulting in a slightly increased challenge to their driving skills. Playability is still fine though and you may also run this game at 8MHz on your Falcons and MegaSTEs if you prefer a slower ride.

Hex

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / HD compatible / 2 trainer options / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512kB / hard disk: 1MB

This was one of the first games made for the Atari ST. Released as early as 1985 Hex didn't actually show off the ST's graphical and musical capabilities then, but it's a very addictive game to play. I have just added a few extra features to this game, it was already HD compatible in it's original incarnation - except for the little, floppy based protection.

The Seven Gates of Jambala

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / HD compatible / 3 trainer options / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 1MB / hard disk: 1MB

This game was quite a bitch to get working 100% on the Falcon030 and the TT. More than 30 individual patches have been applied to make it run stably on the newer machines. I've also fixed the 'rolling rasters' issue on the Steem emulator. If you're too bored to play through this game in a regular manner then you may also activate the internal cheat mode. Please see the manual for the keys that you can use in cheat mode.

Aaargh!

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / HD compatible / 8/16 MHz / 2 trainer options / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 1MB / hard disk: 1MB

Eeeegah! If you're in a berserk mood then this is a great title for letting off some steam. Rampage might be the better game, but playing Aaargh always makes me laugh, which is no small feat. Gameplay in the ST version differs from all other homecomputer versions, so you might want to check the manual for a little more information. Also, this game didn't have a pause key, so I added one.

Driller

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / HD compatible / 3 trainer options / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512kB / hard disk: 1MB

Fixing this game took a very short time only, but veryfying it working right to the end cost me a few days of my lives (as well as some nerve, I suppose). This game is tough and logical thinking won't always help you to solve its many puzzles. For loads of playing hints, maps, etc. I would like to refer you to this page at WorldOfSpectrum.org. The Spectrum version is 99% identical to the ST version as regards gameplay. Some small but essential differences can be read about in the ST manual available here.

Starglider

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / HD compatible / 4 trainer options / high score saver / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512kB / hard disk: 512KB

This wasn't the first 3D vector graphics game for home computers, but it's one of the most famous titles of its kind. Owners of faster Atari machines will enjoy a smoother framerate, so the game actually lives up to its name. A few trainer options and a score saver have been added as well in this version.

Rolling Ronny

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / HD compatible / 5 trainer options / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512kB / hard disk: 1MB

A colourful and very playable platformer from Starbyte. Falcon and TT owners will get some nice 256 colours pictures, replacing the Spectrum 512 pics in the original version. Pressing the M key while playing will now just disable the music but keep the sound effects. Apart from the 5 trainer options, there's also an internal cheat mode: see if you can find it. ;-)

Computer Scrabble (aka: Scrabble de Luxe)

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / 8/16 MHz / HD compatible / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512kB / hard disk: 1MB

A solid implementation of a classic board game, nothing more and nothing less. This is another game that didn't require much action from my side. It was hard disk and Falcon compatible right from the start, so I just packed it, improved on its quit option and added the memory snapshot feature.

Black Tiger

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / 8/16 MHz / HD compatible / 4 trainer options / high score saver / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512kB / hard disk: 1MB

An arcade conversion which matches the original graphics very closely. Unfortunately, the framrate is quite laggy on a standard ST/E. Owners of faster machines will enjoy smoother gameplay - it's actually quite snappy on a Falcon at 16MHz and CPU caches switched on. This game was already HD compatible, once the protection was removed. It just required a few touches to work flawlessly on the Falcon and TT.

Defender of the Crown

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT/CT60 compatible / 8/16 MHz / HD compatible / 3 trainer options / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512kB / hard disk: 1MB

The only Cinemaware game I ever played (ok, I'll admit that I also have played SDI quite a bit). It features beautiful graphics for its time and is actually quite fun to play for a while. The new trainer options might help you to finally conquer all the Norman castles and watch that elusive crowning scene. A full manual can be downloaded here as well.

Interchange (aka: Inspector Hecti in the Interchange)

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / 8/16 MHz / HD compatible / 3 trainer options / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512kB / hard disk: 1MB

Here's a very nice game for a change. Thanks to Jake/Depression for bringing this one to my attention. I've taken it to my heart already. Unlike the original this version can actually be completed provided you manage to beat its fifty levels. A bug concerning the passwords has been squashed as well.

FOFT (aka: Federation of Free Traders)

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / 8/16 MHz / HD compatible / 2 trainer options / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512kB / hard disk: 1MB

In the pre-emulator age I had been curious to play this game, as the copy I had was duff and wouldn't get past the title screen. Well, now that I have spent quite some hours with it I have to say that I have not been missing much. This game is very hard to get into and is quite awkward to control. It was littered with bugs, some of which even crashed the machine - I hope I caught all the serious ones, at least. Reading the manual is mandatory if you want to do something else than just listen to the title music.

Space Harrier

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / HD compatible / trainer / hardcore mode / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512kB / hard disk: 1MB

This one took a bit longer than expected due to a couple of quirks it was exhibiting on the various machines. The framerate is limited to 5 VBLs on fast machines now, which is a fine compromise for speed and playability in my opinion. However, if you're looking for a challenge, you might want to try out the "Hardcore Mode", which can be found in the trainer options if you're running at 16MHz or faster.

Typhoon

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / HD compatible / trainer / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 1MB / hard disk: 1MB

Here's a game that did originally work on TOS 1.00 or 1.04 only, and you had to start the game from a floppy's AUTO folder. It works on all TOSes now, as well as from hard disks and on newer Atari machines. This game surely won't win any prizes for being innovative, but, in my opinion, it's a very playable shooter and quite a blast for a title released as early as 1987.

Crack'ed

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / HD compatible / trainer / fixed high score saver / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512KB / hard disk: 512KB

Simple but addictive - that's how I like my ST games. Crack'ed is, I think, a fine example in this category. Not much to do with that one, apart from a small fix for the Falcon and the TT, plus adding the usual extra stuff. Enjoy - oh, and try the right mouse button while playing.

Leatherneck

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / 8/16 MHz / HD compatible / 3 trainer options / high score saver / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512KB / hard disk: 512KB

Having not played this game for about 20 years, my memories about it were quite hazy, I just fondly remembered the catchy tunes in it. Well, now I know why it didn't actually stick in my mind - it's a rather mediocre affair.
At least it's working on all machines now and has a few additional features you might want to try, but still you might be better off playing Ikari Warriors or Commando instead. ;-)

Global Commander

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / 8/16 MHz / HD compatible / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512KB / hard disk: 1MB

Here's a game that received very generous reviews from the magazines when it appeared. The topic seems quite interesting, but to be honest, I found playing this game to be a rather boring experience. Btw, you may also know this game under its more familiar alternative title: The Armageddon Man.

Cosmic Pirate

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / 8/16 MHz / HD compatible / 3 trainer options / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512KB / hard disk: 1MB

A phrase I encountered on the Lemon Amiga site sums up this game quite nicely: Asteroids on steroids! Prepare for a sore thumb if you intend to play this game for more than just a few minutes. Not much more to be said ... it runs a bit faster on 16MHz machines, but still plays very well at that speed.

Road Runner

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT/CT60 compatible / 8/16 MHz / HD compatible / 2 trainer options / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512KB / hard disk: 1MB

For all the fans of classical music and the fine range of products from ACME Inc., here's a nice cartoon game: Road Runner. The frame rate has now been limited to 3 VBLs by default, which is the standard play speed on a 8MHz machine. Additionally, owners of faster machines will find a 'hardcore mode' within the trainer options, which will run the game at maximum machine speed and present a nice challenge for your joystick skills. If you don't like to read the manual, here's a more modern form of introduction to the game.

Flying Shark

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / 8/16 MHz / HD compatible / 4 trainer options / high score saver / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512KB / hard disk: 1MB

Nice shooter with quite beautiful graphics. It can't compare to the Arcade version, but which ST conversion can? If you're the lucky owner of a faster Atari machine then you'll have access to an accelerated mode which will give you a smoother framerate, but will also be harder to play.

Wrangler

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / 8/16 MHz / HD compatible / 4 trainer options / high score saver / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512KB / hard disk: 1MB

His name is Westwood, Glint Westwood, and he's patrolling the gateways that connect the Universe. Well, if you can endure the 'background story' there's actually a quite fun game awaiting you. This title was already HD and, almost, Falcon compatible (the TT was a bitch though). Most of the time was spent with adding extra features, including a level skip trainer. You might need it, this game gets quite hard in the later levels.

Steigar

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / HD compatible / trainer / high score saver / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512KB / hard disk: 1MB

No, that's not a STOS game, even when it definitely feels like one.
Still, there are worse horizontally scrolling shooters on the ST, like ..... errrmmm ..... ok, let's forget about that. Anyway, I couldn't find an original of this game (it seems to be quite rare - I wonder why), so I used the old Lethal/Hotline crack as a basis for this fix. I hope you won't mind, Lethal. :-)

Populous

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT/CT60 compatible / HD compatible / trainer / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512KB / hard disk: 1MB

If you'd ask me about my favourite game on the ST, then my answer would be: Populous (or Populous 2, depending on my mood). Here you have an enhanced version of this classic. It was already working from hard disks, so I 'just' made it Falcon/TT/16MHz compatible, added a trainer, quit & memory snapshot options and fixed some minor graphic glitches (like a flickering mouse pointer). Why memory snapshots, you might ask, when the game already has a save/load function built in? Well, I have revised some of my core routines, including the snapshot code, and rather than ripping it out after testing I decided to just leave it in.

Super Hang-On

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / HD compatible / 2 trainer options / extended high score saver / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 1MB / hard disk: 1MB

One of the finest racing games for the ST is now ready to be launched from your hard disks, MegaSTEs, Falcons and TTs. As an additional bonus, not only the scores will be saved in this version but the fastest lap times as well, adding a further challenge while you race along. The manual will explain any further modifications I did to the game, as well as revealing how to use the internal cheat mode.

International Karate

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / 8/16 MHz / HD compatible / 512KB compatible / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512KB / hard disk: 1MB

Not as furious as its famous successor, but still a quite enjoyable beat-em-up. The graphical presentation is very respectable for a game issued as early as 1986. Btw, the Atari ST version is the only 16-bit incarnation of the original International Karate, there's no Amiga version of this game. Quick hint: to start a regular game against a computer opponent, hit F2 after the self-running demo has started. A manual is available here.

Pac-Mania

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / HD compatible / 512KB compatible / 2 trainer options / high score saver / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512KB / hard disk: 1MB

Here's one of the best Pac-Man variations for the Atari family (some may say THE best). Addictive gameplay, a solid technical presentation and a few enhancements to the original Pac-Man concept make it a chomping experience that is not to be missed. The trainer options might help you to finally conquer all 19 levels in this game. A tiny doc file is here as well.

Hotshot

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / 8/16 MHz / HD compatible / 512KB compatible / trainer / high score saver / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512KB / hard disk: 512KB

Hotshot is a quirky mix of several genres - elements of Breakout, Pinball and sports games can be found in this title. Not what I would call a great game by any margin, but it was quite easy to patch, so here you have it. Not sure how to play it? No problem, here's a short manual.

North & South

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT/CT60 compatible / 8/16 MHz / HD compatible / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512KB / hard disk: 1MB

This is a cute and very funny comic-based strategy game, taking place at the time of the American Civil War. Move your armies, buy new units, rob money trains, conquer enemy forts - all shown in great comic-style graphics and with hilarious animations. There's no trainer this time. Well, even I am able to complete this game without one, so there's really no need for a cheat here. A manual is available as well. Please read it if you don't know the game yet.

Goldrunner

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / 8/16 MHz / HD compatible / 512KB compatible / 3 trainer options / high score saver / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512KB / hard disk: 512KB

I remember the day when I first saw this game in action on a mate's ST. I guess he spent some time wiping my drool off his floor after I had left him. At that time it was without a question the technically most impressive shooter I had seen on the ST - and it still holds up well today.
Well, this new version adds a couple of new features that will hopefully enhance it a bit more. Please read the manual for some more in-depth information about the new memory snapshot option, as well as for other additions and changes.

Trailblazer

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / 8/16 MHz / HD compatible / 512KB compatible / 3 trainer options / high score saver / quit option (Control-D). Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512KB / hard disk: 1MB

As you might have noticed when looking at the games on this page, I'm in love with many of those early Atari ST titles. Here's another one: Trailblazer surely ain't the greatest ST game ever, but for me it always had some kind of special charm. Please have a look at the manual, explaining why there's no editor included in this version and also telling you about some unlocked 'special features' in this game that you probably won't know yet (such as: the "Lunar Bounce").

Menace

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / 8/16 MHz / HD compatible / 512KB compatible / 3 trainer options / quit option (Control-D). Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512KB / hard disk: 1MB

Not too much to say about that one, maybe except for telling you, that there's also a manual for this game online here. Not that I think you'd need it with this kind of game, but it will at least explain the new trainer options.
This is also, to my knowledge, the only filed and packed version of this title, that will still run on half meg machines (from floppy, that is). Finally, it's one of those games that don't benefit much from being run on faster machines, which shouldn't matter as it's very playable on even the most humble ST
. :-)

Darius

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / 8/16 MHz / HD compatible / 512KB compatible / 3 trainer options / quit option (Control-D). Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512KB / hard disk: 1MB

I probably never would have tackled this game if it hadn't been to brought to my attention by fellow Atarian bullis1. Well, it turned out to be a 'standard' horizontal shooter with quite impressive graphics but with one big drawback: if there's some action going on this game gets slooow as hell on 8MHz machines. However, owners of a Mega STE or, better still, a Falcon gain a lot of speed with this version. For the best balance of speed and playability I'd recommend setting your Falcon to 16MHz/no caches in the textro.
The original I worked with was severely bugged:
two of the higher stages didn't work at all and the "Skill Level" option plainly crashed the game. This is the same with all existing versions btw, but has been fixed here. The skill level option has been removed as it seems that the programmers didn't have any idea what it should do anyway.

Chubby Gristle

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / 8/16 MHz / HD compatible / 512KB compatible / 2 trainer options / high score saver / quit option (Control-D). Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512KB / hard disk: 512KB

This is a strangely spectrumesque platformer with quite basic graphics for an ST title but it can be lots of fun anyway - albeit a bit frustrating too. The level of difficulty is very high so you may be glad to find that this version has a few trainer options. One hint: pick up every item you find lying around in the various levels, with one big exception: avoid the oil-can (well, at least I think it's an oil-can)! You'll soon find out why.

Pang

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/CT60 compatible / HD compatible / 3 trainer options / high score saver / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512KB / hard disk: 1MB

An especially nice game has finally found its way to your hard disks and Falcons. I spent an enormous amount of time with playtesting this game, not because it was a particularly hard fix but just because I couldn't stop playing it. Please note that this title is not TT compatible. However, I'd love to fix it or the TT too (if somone can tell me how to set a 320x240x16 video mode on the TT ;-) ).

Metro-Cross

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT/CT60 compatible / 8/16 MHz / HD compatible / trainer / high score saver / memory snapshots / quit option. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512KB / hard disk: 512KB

Especially done for the 14th round of STOT - the ST Offline Tournament. Well, now that this round of STOT is history, there's no rason to deprive you of the trained version. This is a very entertaining game, btw - simple yet addictive!

Exolon

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / 8/16 MHz / HD compatible / 512KB compatible / 3 trainer options / high score saver / quit option (Control-D). Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512KB / hard disk: 1MB

This game was almost Falcon and TT compatible from the start, now it works 100% on these machines. So get your joystick and blast away - there's 125 screens full of (somewhat repetitive) action to explore! Technical sidenote: this is another TOS dependent title that uses my replacement functions to make it independent of its software environment.

Captain America Defies the Doom Tube

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / 8/16 MHz / HD compatible / 512KB compatible / 5 trainer options / quit option (Control-D) / intro by Bod/Stax. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512KB / hard disk: 1MB

Ok, this is not what I would call a great game, but at least it can be completed now! The original version couldn't due to a bug in the code! Also it seems that most people have big difficulties in figuring out what the hell you're supposed to do in this game - and understandably so. There wasn't a complete manual at hand, so Ion decided to write one to make your life a bit easier. You will find the manual on the disk. This is also the first game on this page that has been fixed and verified to run on the Atari TT - expect the rest to follow soon. :-)

Garfield - Big, Fat, Hairy Deal

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / 8/16 MHz / HD compatible / 512KB compatible / 3 trainer options / quit option (Control-D). Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512KB / hard disk: 1MB

A cute little comic adventure featuring world's most famous (and fattest) cat: Garfield. It may seem a bit weird at times but once you get a grip on how to play the game it's actually quite fun. In case you should get stuck, there's a walkthrough solution ready for download, along with a short manual and some hints. The trainer options might help too.

Run the Gauntlet

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / 8/16 MHz / HD compatible / 512KB compatible / 4 trainer options / quit option (Control-D). Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512KB / hard disk: 1MB

This is more or less a racing game, with a sense of speed slightly lacking on a regular ST. However, if you're the lucky owner of a Mega STE or - better yet - a Falcon, you can now race along with the turbo engine switched on: on the Falcon, you'll get full 50/60fps. You better be a joystick wiz if you run this game at that speed, otherwise it might be advisable to choose the 8MHz option in the textro. Again, there's a manual file ready for download here, which also explains the trainer options in greater detail. By the way, you might want to read the great review by Sarek, which can be found at the Atari Legend website.

Mickey Mouse

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / 8/16 MHz / HD compatible / 512KB compatible / 3 trainer options / high score saver / quit option (Control-D). Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512KB / hard disk: 1MB

Graphically nice platformer by Gremlin, which gets a tiny bit boring after a while. Apart from the regular ghost killing and ladder climbing business, there are also 4 different kinds of subgames to master. Because it's not quite self-explanatory how to play these, you can also download the manual for the game here, which was shamelessly stolen from the WHD load package for the Amiga version.

Arkanoid

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT/CT60 compatible / 8/16 MHz / HD compatible / 4 trainer options / high score saver / memory snapshots / quit option / 3 new level sets. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512KB / hard disk: 1MB

One of the most addictive games ever! The original would only work with TOS 1.00, but this version will be ok on all TOS versions and on all machines up to the Falcon/CT60. There's also three additional level sets, each with 32 unique levels, so you won't get bored once you have beaten the original ones. The new levels were designed by the DMA and me, using the Arkanoid Construction Kit. Besides that, you may also use other level sets - see the manual on how to do it.

Zynaps

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / HD compatible / 512KB compatible / 3 trainer options / high score saver / quit option (Control-D). Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512KB / hard disk: 1MB

Well, here's a special guest feature, done by my old friend Ion Tichy of Elite! Intro by Wacko/Lynx. One of the hardest shooters on the ST has now got a lot easier with some trainer options you can choose from. We have played the game up to the 37th level and there doesn't seem to be an end to it. If someone can manage to actually complete the game then please let me know. I'd be very curious to see the ending sequence - although I doubt that there is any.

Sargon III

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / 8/16 MHz / HD compatible / 512KB compatible. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512KB / hard disk: 512KB

This is a standard GEM chess program so this new version doesn't offer lots of new features - quitting to desktop and saving your game were already working in the original, of course. It also ran from HD, so I just made it compatible with a few Falcon specific screen resolutions (like 640x480x256, my favourite rez) and packed it.

Cybernoid

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / 8/16 MHz / HD compatible / 512KB compatible / 2 trainer options / high score saver / quit option (Control-D). Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512KB / hard disk: 1MB

Yes, I know, there's already a good HD compatible version of this game available. I did this new version anyway, as it has been on my personal to-do list for more than 17 years now. This is also true for most of the other games on this page, so you might see the occasional doublet, although I will try to see that this doesn't happen too often. Anyway, this is still a very enjoyable game. Oh, and don't get lost on the 4th level.

Overlander

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / 8/16 MHz / HD compatible / 512KB compatible / 3 trainer options / high score saver / quit option (Control-D). Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512KB / hard disk: 1MB

This game always has been one of the fastest racers on the ST - now it runs at breakneck speed on 16MHz machines! Playability is still great. This one took me some time to get it fixed 100% for the Falcon and the MegaSTE. Although it ran ok with some minimal changes, the software timed rasters nearly drove me crazy to get them working stably on the various configs.

Veteran

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / 8/16 MHz / HD compatible / 512KB compatible / 2 trainer options / quit option (Control-D). Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512KB / hard disk: 1MB

Ok, this is classic Paradox crap, but at least it plays a bit more 'exciting' if you run the game at 16MHz. This is also one of the games where the programmers didn't bother to include a proper ending sequence. If you finish the last level, you'll be greeted by an "Game over" message and that's it. Well, at least this fits with the rest of the game. This title was already HD and Falcon compatible from day one, so I just had to add the trainer and quit option and patch a few small bugs.

Last Duel

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / 8/16 MHz / HD compatible / 512KB compatible / 3 trainer options / high score saver / quit option (Control-D). Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512KB / hard disk: 1MB

Another game that was close to working ok on the Falcon, but not quite. It also wouldn't work on any real-world hard disk systems - now it does. This version is, to my knowledge, the first ST hack that uses UPX for data packing/unpacking, and not just for packing executables. The game itself is a so-so variation on the classic vertical shoot-em-up theme.

Black Sect (English French)

Mega/ST/E/Falcon030/TT compatible / HD compatible / HD installer included / walkthrough solution in English included. Minimum memory requirements: floppy: 512KB / hard disk: 2.5MB

This is the first ever English version of a very nice adventure game. The translation was partially done by the developers but it was never finished. It took me ages to complete it and make the game HD compatible etc., but I think the result was worth it. For more information on this title please read the scrolltext in the intro and have a look at this thread at Atari-Forum. Also many thanks to all the mates who had helped with the translation (Mug UK, Brume, dungeon.master, cb, Fred_R, Maartau), to D-Bug for ULS which is used when running this game from hard disk, to Zorro 2 for the great intro and especially to Fredo_L of Lankhor.net for his generous supply.
